Subarnarekha River (also called Swarnarekha River) flows through the Indian states of Jharkhand, West Bengal and Orissa.Subarnarekha means 'golden line' and the river flows through the states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa.
As per tradition, gold was mined near the origin of the river at a village named Piska near Ranchi. This is why it was named Subarnarekha. A multi-purpose project has been designed on this river to benefit the farmers of Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal. Suvarnarekha River is an important river of India with reddish blue water. Bhavnatha Mahadev Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is situated on the river, which also has some holy step wells for the pilgrims to have a dip to get moksha (salvation). The Subarnarekha River falls to a depth of 320 feet forming Hundru falls, which is 45 km distance from Ranchi. It also has a hill station in the Chota Nagpur Plateau region, Jharkhand. One of the earliest European settlements was on the Orissan coast is at the mouth of the Subarnarekha River. The prominent tributaries of the Subarnarekha are Harkai, Roro, Kanchi, Damra, Karru, Chinguru, Karakari, Gurma, Garra, Singaduba, Kodia, Dulunga and Khaijori. The Kharkai meets the Subarnarekha at Sonari(Domuhani), a neighbourhood of Jamshedpur.
